The Most Important Web Style Rule

After reading the web style guides I found the most important rule to be keeping content to one item per page. A web page is not the same as writing on a piece of paper. The audience reads a web page differently. A reader of a web page is far more likely to scan the page quickly to gather the information, because of this material needs to be highly organized so that the information can be found quickly and easily. This is also why it is important to omit any needless words and images. The website should be clean and easy to understand. As Lynch and Horton say in their on line style guide, “Although people will notice the graphic design of your Web pages right away, the overall organization of the site will have the greatest impact on their experience.” While content is very important, when it comes to a website it is the organization which is the most important. Making this the most important of all the rules discussed. This was also the primary change to my own website. While my first website was virtually a single page, the web site now has a hierarchy and has a single space for each item to be easy to find.
